FAQ
Below are answers to some of the most common questions I get. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, feel free to reach out directly at silvergraindarkroom@gmail.com.
Where do you shoot, and do you travel?
I typically shoot in and around Pensacola since this is where I call home. Occasionally, I'll be on the road to other cities so follow me on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok to stay up to date of where I'm at.
Do you retouch photos?
In a way, yes. All by hand in the darkroom though. This includes dodging, burning, masking and split grading.
Can I use the photos for media or promotional use?
Absolutely. If you purchase one of my prints, you are free to do whatever you wish.
Do you do client work and what are your rates?
Yes, if you’re interested in working together, fill out the contact form and I’ll provide a quote. I don’t have a set rate as I believe each situation is different and it really depends on what the client is looking for.
Do you shoot weddings?
At this time, I do not photograph weddings.
What kind of print options do you offer?
My hand-made darkroom prints are made using Ilford Multigrade Paper using traditional darkroom techniques. I'm always experimenting with different techniques so exact processes and chemicals are constantly changing. Keep an eye on the blog or social media to see what my latest techniques are.
Do you ship prints?
Yes. Nationwide shipping is available for all print orders.
Are your prints signed or limited edition?
All of my prints are limited edition, with some having a few copies and some only having one. Prints will be signed and numbered on the mat and will come with a certificate of authenticity. If the print is a 1 of 1, you will also receive the negative.
What’s your photography style?
If I had to describe my style, I would as in-the-moment, creative, and candid. I don't like to rely on cookie-cutter setups that feel forced. My main goal is to make the viewer feel something, whether that be smile, laugh, frown, or squirm. That being said, I photographer anything that catches my eye, I don't like to confine my work to one style.
What makes you different from other photographers in the area?
I'm not trying to capture the perfect shot or make my photographs ‘technically perfect’. None of my photos are perfect. But that in itself is what gives the images life. Also, the only digital files of my images are phone pictures or scans of the final prints. You won't find any final images as a digital file.
Do you shoot with natural light or artificial light?
I'm going to say natural light. Anything that the world around us can provide (whether that's natural or manmade). Could be sunlight, a neon sign or a car's high beams. I've considered using flash but I'm personally not a huge fan of it.
Do you only shoot black and white film?
No, not 100% of the time. While my main focus is black and white film, there are certain situations where film isn’t feasible or color tells a better story, it really all depends.
