About Me
Hey, I’m Tyler, a photographer based in Pensacola, Florida, specializing in analog film. I could be photographing a live show, a family on the beach, or your business, my goal is always the same: to tell a story through the photo, not just take one.
I work with both individual and business clients on a wide range of projects. I also offer a curated collection of hand-made darkroom prints from my personal work.
What Sets My Work Apart
I utilize a purely analog process, shooting both 35mm and medium format film. Film captures a depth and character that digital just can't match. It makes me slow down, think more, and be intentional with each shot. There’s no faking it. No AI. No over-manipulation in post-editing. The imperfections are what makes it real. That mindset carries over into all of my work.
My goal isn't to churn out generic images. I want to create something real. I want you to look back on your family photo, your live show, or even a moody landscape and take you back to that time and place.
How I Got Started
I picked up photography while serving in the Navy. It really kicked off in Virginia Beach. I was spending more time outdoors and wanted something better than a phone to capture those moments. I bought a Nikon D5600 with a couple kit lenses and just started learning.
Later on, I was stationed in California, which gave me more opportunities to shoot nature and landscapes. As a WSO in the F/A-18F Super Hornet, I had some one-of-a-kind views. At one point, an F-35 squadron in Lemoore asked me to take some shots from the air, which made some truly extraordinary images with incredible scenery.
Film came into the picture during a 9-month deployment to Qatar in 2022. I wanted something small and low-profile to shoot with, and mailing a digital camera wasn't an option. I ordered a Pentax K1000 off eBay and started experimenting. Most of the first rolls were underexposed and junk photos, but a few came out great, and I got hooked.
After getting back to the States, I kept shooting film, learned more through YouTube and old-fashioned FAFO’ing, and picked up a couple more film cameras. In late 2024, I picked up some darkroom gear through Facebook Marketplace and started developing and printing my own black and white work at home. I’ve recently started shooting medium format too, using a Yashica Mat 124G.
Film forces you to think carefully before you hit the shutter. You consider the light, the settings, the moment, the chemistry, and the print all before the shot even happens.
Where I Am Now
I now call Pensacola home. I spend a lot of time outdoors fishing on the beach, riding my bike, playing roller hockey, and just being in the sun when I can. I also play bass in an original hard rock band called Serena’s Fire, based here in Pensacola.
These days, I’m focused on working with clients here on the Gulf Coast while continuing to explore personal photo projects that mean something to me. Whether it’s a photo shoot or a print, everything I offer reflects the time, effort, and thought I put into this work.
What Photography Means to Me
Photography is about more than just images. For me, it’s about capturing fleeting moments that you can return to later and still feel that connectivity. It’s about the emotion tied to a memory, not just the image itself.
