Making the RWB Print
I’m writing this blog post a few days after I made the print "Red, White & Blues". From the last blog post, you know that I biked back downtown to the truck Saturday afternoon. I was exhausted, so I waited until the next morning to process the film.
I do all my black and white personal work processing at home. It's actually easier than I thought at first. I just use the beginner home film developing kit from B&H Photo with all the equipment you really need to develop 2 rolls of 35mm or 1 roll of 120 at a time, which is plenty for me right now. Do a quick YouTube search and you'll find plenty of videos on it if you're interested.
Pulled the film out of the tank and knew I had some bangers in there. One of them being "Red, White & Blues". A few shots were ruined/had an abstract artistic touch to them from the rain (see last blog for more).
This actually ended being a pretty simple print to make. Using my Beseler 23CII, after a few test strips, I ended up using f/8 on the lens with a #3 contrast filter for 10 seconds as a base exposure. After that I burned in the bottom third where the people are for about 2-3 seconds. That's really it for this one. I think it turned out nice and punchy but still with detail in the shadows.
